Any company that gives you a firm windshield price before identifying your exact glass is either guessing or planning to revise it later.
The same year, make and model can take several different windshields. What changes the part is what is bonded to it: a rain sensor, a heated wiper park, an acoustic interlayer, a heads-up display, a camera bracket for driver assistance. Two identical looking vehicles on the same street can carry glass with a meaningful price difference between them.

What Moves the Price
The Glass Itself
Make, model and the specific variant fitted to your vehicle. This is the base of the quote.
Sensors and Features
Rain sensors, heated wiper parks, acoustic glass, heads-up display. Each changes the part number.
ADAS Recalibration
If a driver assistance camera sits on the glass, it must be recalibrated after replacement. On many vehicles this is a large share of the total.
OEM or OEM Equivalent
Both can be correct. Which one is appropriate depends on the vehicle, not on what we would prefer to sell.
Adhesive and Cure Time
The urethane and the safe drive-away time are part of doing the job properly, not an optional line.

The Recalibration Question Is Where Quotes Diverge
If your vehicle has lane keeping, automatic emergency braking or adaptive cruise control, there is very likely a camera looking through the windshield. Replacing the glass moves that camera. It has to be recalibrated to the manufacturer specification.
- A quote that omits a required recalibration is not a cheaper quote. It is an incomplete one.
- Skipping it can leave safety systems reading the road incorrectly.

Before You Spend Anything: Can It Be Repaired?
A replacement is not always necessary. Damage that is recent, limited in size and positioned away from the driver line of sight can often be repaired at a fraction of the cost of replacement. The window for that closes as the damage spreads, particularly through temperature swings.

Insurance May Change the Arithmetic
If the damage is covered under comprehensive, the number that matters to you is your deductible, not the sticker price of the glass. Where the deductible exceeds the cost, a claim gains you nothing. Where the glass costs considerably more, a claim usually makes sense.

What actually drives the cost?
The glass itself, the features bonded to it, whether the vehicle needs ADAS recalibration afterwards, and the adhesive and labour. On many modern vehicles the recalibration is a significant part of the total, not a rounding error.
What is ADAS recalibration and why does it cost extra?
If your vehicle has lane keeping, automatic emergency braking or adaptive cruise control, a camera is usually mounted to the windshield. Moving the glass moves the camera. It has to be recalibrated to the manufacturer specification or the safety systems can read the road incorrectly. It is a real procedure with real equipment, not an upsell.
Is OEM glass worth paying more for?
Sometimes. OEM equivalent glass from a reputable manufacturer meets the same safety standards and fits correctly on most vehicles. Where a vehicle has a heads-up display, a complex camera bracket or unusual acoustic glass, OEM is often the safer choice. We will tell you which situation you are in.
Is a cheaper quote a bad sign?
Not automatically, but ask what it includes. A quote that excludes the recalibration your vehicle actually requires is not cheaper, it is incomplete. The gap tends to appear on the day.
Does a chip repair cost less than a replacement?
Considerably less, and it is often the better outcome where the damage still qualifies. A chip that is recent, small and away from the driver line of sight can frequently be repaired. Once it spreads, the option closes.
